U.S. Senator Edward Kennedy began his final journey, first past landmark after landmark bearing his family's famous name and then to his slain brother's presidential library where mourners lined up by the thousands to bid farewell to him and an American political dynasty.
Crowds assembled Thursday along the 112-kilometre route that snaked from the family's compound in Hyannis Port to the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum, where his body lay in repose. More than 20,000 people waited in line to file past his closed casket and mark the end of a national political chapter that was equal parts triumph and tragedy.
Mr. Kennedy's widow, Vicki, who greeted well-wishers filing past the casket, said the outpouring was deeply moving for the family.
“I just want to thank them so much for coming this evening and showing love and support for my husband,” she said. “It's a tremendous solace to all our family.”
For many, it was hard to untangle Mr. Kennedy's larger-than-life role as statesman from his role as neighbour and local celebrity, whether he was taking a turn conducting the Boston Pops or throwing out the first pitch for the Red Sox.
“It was Teddy's home team. It just seemed appropriate to leave him the cap,” said James Jenner, 28, placing a Sox cap he was wearing near the entrance to the library. “It symbolizes everything that he loved about his home state and everything he was outside the Senate.”

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama is praising Eunice Kennedy Shriver, who died Tuesday at age 88, as "an extraordinary woman" and a champion for the rights of the mentally disabled.
Obama, in a statement released Tuesday, paid tribute to Shriver for founding the Special Olympics, which became the world's largest athletic competition for mentally disabled children and adults.
Shriver's creation "greatly enriched the lives of Special Olympians" around the world, Obama said.
Shriver "taught our nation - and our world - that no physical or mental barrier can restrain the power of the human spirit," the president said.

Opponents of President Obama's health care plan have taken aim at the U.K. in an effort to discredit his proposals, saying he seeks to turn the U.S. system into a government-run regime similar to the one run by Britain's National Health Service, or NHS. But the attacks have hit a nerve here, where the population largely takes its cradle-to-grave coverage for granted and looks askance at the millions of Americans living without health insurance. Britons have flocked to Twitter to defend their country's health system, making "We Love the NHS" one of the micro-blogging sites most popular terms.
Many of those posting Thursday said they were appalled at the right-wing attacks, some of which implied that older Brits weren't treated for cancer because it wasn't worth it, or that English people were so desperate for adequate dentistry that they used super glue to fix their teeth, or a statement, by Republican Congressman Paul Broun of Georgia, that Britons simply didn't value human life as highly as Americans.
On twitter said he was disgusted that the some in the U.S., which is fighting alongside Britain in Afghanistan, would malign their trans-Atlantic ally.
Mehdi Karoubi, one of the defeated presidential candidates, kept up the public pressure this week by claiming first that male and female detainees have been raped in Tehran’s Evin and Kahrizak prisons, and later that political prisoners were tortured to death.
“We observe that in an Islamic country some young people are beaten to death just for chanting slogans,” Mr Karoubi wrote on his website.
Other detainees “were forced to take off their clothes. Then they were made to go on their hands and knees and were ridden [by prison guards]. Or the prison authorities put them on top of each other while they were naked ... Do such treatments conform with Islam, which is a religion of mercy?” he asked.

Mr Karoubi’s allegations, which are supported by Western human rights organisations, seemed designed to deepen rifts within the conservative establishment over the way detainees have been treated.
They certainly appeared to strike a nerve. The regime has denounced them as baseless, and demanded Mr Karoubi produce proof. Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami, a hardline cleric, used his sermon at Tehran’s Friday prayers yesterday to demand Mr Karoubi’s prosecution. He said his accusations were “full of libel, a total slander against the Islamic system” that helped Iran’s enemies.
With security forces brutally suppressing any street demonstrations, grassroots activists are adopting subtler methods of resisting a regime they consider illegitimate.
They still chant Allahu akbar (God is greatest) from the rooftops every night, and write anti-regime slogans on banknotes, but they are also daubing graffiti(“Death to Basiji” ½ the volunteer militia that confronts protestors on the streets - and “Death to the Dictator”) on walls across the capital, and using paintball guns loaded with green paint to obliterate posters of Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader.. Sometimes they simply paint a black X across his portrait.
Thousands of samidzat DVDs are discreetly distributed in cafés, restaurant and tea houses, and through networks of friends and relatives. They document the regime’s crimes, show protesters being beaten up, and focus on the faces of the basiji volunteers carrying out the beatings so they can be identified.
There are still periodic street demonstrations, but they are designed to thwart the security forces. On Wednesday thousands gathered outside Tehran’s huge, labyrinthine bazaar.
“When the police attacked we were able to run into the maze of the bazaar and its surrounding streets only to reappear at a different place to continue the protest,” one participant told The Times. Sympathetic merchants sheltered the protesters, and on at least one occasion beat pursuing basiji.
One prominent activist, Mohsen Armin, has issued a pre-emptive denial of any future “confession” in case he is arrested and tortured. He had received no foreign money or assistance, he wrote on his website. He has not called for a revolution, just for the constitution to be respected. “If, in jail and under pressure, I say something against what I have said, be sure that it is not my true belief.”

The law, a tamer version of one that caused an international outcry earlier this year, allows men to withhold food from a wife who refuses to have sex. For as long as he sees fit. That's right, husbands have been given the option of starving their wives to death.
The law also leaves a woman's right to work solely in the hands of her husband. And this is the compromise law?
The fact is, it has the tacit, at least, support of Afghan President Hamid Karzai. This is the man Afghanis Congress applauded wildly five years ago. He's also the guy Afghanis are almost certain to re-elect later this week as President.
It's been said he controls Kabul, and little else. It's also been said his support for this family law is an attempt to gain some support among the conservative Shi'ite population that pushed it.

Donovan was to be evaluated by a doctor on Friday and Saturday, the team said. His status for the Galaxy's game against Seattle on Saturday in Major League Soccer remained unclear.
"It certainly depends on how Landon feels and what the doctors tell me," Galaxy coach Bruce Arena said on Friday.
Donovan did not practice on Friday after playing all 90 minutes for the United States in a 2-1 loss to Mexico in World Cup qualifying on Wednesday in Mexico City.
The United States Soccer Federation said Donovan joined the national team on Aug. 9 in Miami, three days before the game. It also said that no other players expressed or showed signs of flulike symptoms while in camp.
In a statement, the federation said Donovan tested positive for the influenza A virus, which was presumed to be the H1N1 strain known as swine flu.
"We had the flu run through the team last week in Boston," Arena said. "We took the necessary precautions. We had a couple of staff members out a couple of days and on medication."
Like many Japanese women, Junko waited until her early 30s to get married. When she and her fiance, an employee of a well-known firm, decided to tie the knot, she set her sights on making a home, putting away some money and starting a family.
Fifteen years later, Junko and her husband are childless. It is not that they cannot have children; it is just that they have never had sex.
The sexless marriage is one of several reasons why experts fear Japan is on the verge of a demographic disaster.
In 2003 Japan's birthrate hit a record low of 1.29 - the average number of times a woman gives birth during her lifetime - one of the lowest rates in the world, according to the cabinet office. The population will peak next year at about 128 million, then decline to just over 100 million by 2050.

The 200 women a year who seek help at a clinic in the Tokyo suburbs have not had sex with their husbands in up to 20 years, and some never, according to Kim Myong-gan, who runs the clinic.
"The women who come to see me love their husbands and aren't looking for a divorce," he told the Guardian. "The problem is that their husbands lose interest in sex or don't want sex from the start. Many men think of their wives as substitute mothers, not as women with emotional and sexual needs."
Mr Kim's short-term solution is unconventional. After an initial 20,000 yen (£100) counselling session, he produces photographs of 45 men, mostly professionals in their 40s, with whom the women are invited to go on dates and then, in almost all cases, arrange regular assignations in hotel rooms.
Mr Kim dismissed charges that his service was little more than a male prostitution ring. "The men volunteer and pay half the hotel and restaurant bills, so legally there is absolutely nothing wrong with it," he said.
He had rescued hundreds of women from despair, he said, but his "sex volunteers" would do nothing to cure the malaise that afflicts the institution of marriage in Japan.
The number of married couples is in rapid decline. In 2000 almost 70% of men and 54% of women between 25 and 29 were unmarried. That bodes ill for the birthrate, as conservative Japanese society frowns upon having children outside marriage.
A survey of 600 women found that 26% had not had sex with their husbands in the past year.
"We are sort of room-mates rather than a married couple," one 31-year-old man, who had not had sex with his wife for two years, told the Asahi Shimbun newspaper.
The government has introduced several measures to lift the birthrate. Fathers will be encouraged to take more than the 47% of annual paid leave they currently use, and their employers will be told to provide more opportunities for them to stay at home with their children.
Local authorities, meanwhile, are devising novel ways to increase fertility. In the town of Yamatsuri women will receive 1m yen if they have a third child, and in Ishikawa prefecture families with three children will get discounts at shops and restaurants.
The absence of children in so many homes is having an impact. Fun parks are closing and there are signs that the "exam hell" teenagers go through to secure places at top schools and universities is less of an ordeal because the competition is less fierce.
The divorce rate has nearly doubled in the past 10 years, with more women blaming their sexually inactive, as opposed to sexually errant, husbands for break-ups.
"The men love their companies; they live for work," Mr Kim said. "Men don't even think it is a problem if they don't have sex with their wives. They have pornography and the sex industry to take care of their needs, but their wives have nowhere to go. They just suffer in silence."
-------------------------------------------- To The Top ------------------------------------------------------Because of increased concern about the environment and worry about effects of chemical based products on the babies, an increasing number of parents have decided to choose organic baby products for their children. These products are easy on the delicate skin of the babies, gentle on the environment and the earth and contain no harmful toxins that may be dangerous for the babies. Non-organic products contain several chemicals and additives that are harmful for the baby’s skin and make their delicate skin even worse. There are several websites over the Internet that supply eco-friendly products and organic baby T-shirts for our babies. These organic products for babies may be anything ranging from baby clothing, bedding, soaps, shampoos skin care products and even toys.
Skin of babies is very sensitive and the toxins and chemicals used in non-organic clothing and bedding can cause allergies, respiratory problems and irritation in them. By choosing organic baby skin care products for the babies, we not only protect them from such complications but also save our environment from the harmful effects of non-organic products. These organic baby skin care products like organic clothing and organic baby T-shirts are made up of naturally grown cotton without the utilization of any chemicals.
Safe and Organic Products For Your Baby From Hearthsong and Giggle
Apart from what comes in contact with their skin, it is also important to give attention to what they are eating and drinking. A large number of baby food products range like organic baby bedding products available at a grocery store are modified genetically so that they become more appealing and attractive to the customers. According to evidences, these genetically modified products are not only harmful for the babies but also for the environment. In addition to that, organic food contains 2-3 times more nutrients than non-organic food which means that organic food is more nutritious and healthy for the babies. Less genetically modified products and more nutrients are a much safer option for the little ones.

It is wise to choose organic baby products only because they are simpler, purer, softer, safer and more comfortable for the babies as compared to their non-organic and synthetic counterparts. As the skin of babies is soft and delicate, they can more easily develop skin irritation and rashes due to chemicals which are usually added to the skin care products designed for babies. Most of the non-organic products are never tested and by using them, you are putting the health of your baby at risk. According to recent researches, it has been found that many of these non-organic products contain anti-freeze which is able to kill an animal if ingested.
