G.I.Joe:The Rise of Cobra

Rating : PG-13

Genre: War
Cast : Channing Tatum,Marlon Wayans,Rachel Nicolas,Sienna Miller

Storyline:
G.I. Joe is a top-secret, multi-national special forces unit comprised of highly-trained, physically attractive military personnel from around the world. Equipped with the latest in superawesome vehicles and weaponry and guided by the tough but fair General Hawk, they take on the baddest of the bad guys, the kind of terrorists that scoff at conventional organizations. As the General himself so aptly states, “When all else fails, we don’t.”

That credo is put to the test, however, when a shadowy terrorist group armed with even awesomer vehicles and weaponry, like crazy-ass laser guns and computer-guided zombie troopers, infiltrates the Joes’ compound and makes off with a cache of four WMDs, each of which is capable of leveling an entire city. Do the men and women of G.I. Joe have what it takes to defeat these menacing new adversaries before they mount their next devastating attack?

Review:

It takes an elite group of actors to play an elite group of soldiers, and the cast of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is stocked with an abundance of Hollywood’s most talented performers, all adorned in various types of leather fetish apparel. White Chicks star Marlon Wayans plays Ripcord, a flight specialist who can pilot any type of airplane, even enemy crafts that respond only to voice commands uttered in Celtic. Channing Tatum, star of Step Up and Step Up 2: The Streets, plays his best pal Duke, a badass infantryman who knows no fear. Preeminent ginger chick Rachel Nichols showcases her fiery crimson locks as Scarlett, a shrewd intel expert whose stoic exterior hides a growing attraction to Ripcord. Barking out the orders as General Hawk is Enemy Mine star Dennis Quaid.

On the side of the bad guys is the Baroness, played by Factory Girl star Sienna Miller in a push-up bra, dirty librarian glasses and a raven-colored dye job. She’s the point woman for McMullen, a shady Scottish weapons magnate played by Christopher Eccleston. But McMullen is no ordinary shady Scottish weapons magnate; he’s covertly amassed a huge terrorist empire headquartered beneath the polar ice caps. It’s there that “The Doctor,” a horribly disfigured mad scientist played by (500) Days of Summer star Joseph Gordon-Levitt, concocts all sorts of diabolical new weapons and gadgets to unleash on the innocent.

Oh, and there are ninjas, too. Good guy Snake Eyes, played by Ray Park, wears sleek black body armor, while the evil Storm Shadow, played by Byung-hun Lee, runs around in a updated version of Elvis Presley’s classic all-white jumpsuit.

WHAT’S GOOD?

Loaded with scene after scene of high-tech action-movie eye candy, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra assaults the senses with such a relentless barrage of over-the-top stunts, eye-popping visual effects and stylized fight sequences that only the most coldly cynical of viewers will be able to resist submitting to its visceral charms.

WHAT’S BAD?

As with most sugary indulgences, the sweet, dizzying high is followed almost immediately by a painful crash. Feelings of guilt and shame start to simmer as you kick yourself for yielding to such soulless gluttony. The next morning, you awake with a throbbing headache and a heart filled with regret. The following day, a doctor informs you that you have adult-onset diabetes. So in a nutshell, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is the cinematic equivalent of adult-onset diabetes.

FAVORITE SCENE?

The scene where they have the big fight with all the advanced weapons and a whole bunch of stuff blows up. Oh wait, that’s EVERY scene.

Julie & Julia

Genre :Adaptation

                                                                                                                                                                         Rat

Rating:PG-13

Cast: Meryl Streep,Amy Adams, Chris Messena,Stanley Tucci

Storyline :

Julie & Julia melds the analogous stories of cooking legend Julia Child’s life in 1950s France with the modern-day tale of writer Julie Powell’s real-life quest to prepare all 524 recipes in Child’s classic tome Mastering the Art of French Cooking. The film neatly covers Child’s life in post-World War II Paris with her foreign diplomat husband Paul, her foray into and eventual mastery of French cooking, and the difficulties she encountered while trying to publish her groundbreaking cookbook. Intercut with Child's story is Powell’s decision to shake up her life as an unfulfilled government employee in post-9/11 New York by challenging herself to cook and blog. Her inevitable trials (she burns an important meal, gets in trouble at work and pisses off her husband) and victories (a perfectly poached egg, a write-up in the New York Times) are all included.

PowerScore, Inc.

WHAT’S GOOD?

All of it. Nora Ephron’s script elegantly weaves the story of Child in Paris and Powell in Queens, portraying both locales as the prettiest, freshest versions of themselves. The film is a joy to look at not only for the sumptuous shots of Powell’s many creations and Child’s rich French fare, but also for the pristine recreation of the style and fashion of 1950s Paris. It will make you want to drink champagne cocktails, wear chiffon and eat chocolate cake. And beef. And bruschetta. And anything else available.

The film is superbly acted and manages to be funny, inspiring and poignant without falling into schlocky chick-flick territory. The story is refreshing in its depiction of two happy, drama-free marriages. The true romance here is with all the gorgeous food, which Streep, Tucci, Adams and especially Messina consume with joyful gusto.

WHAT’S BAD?

At just over two hours, the film runs a bit long, especially for a comedy. Although it never slows or bores, several scenes about publishing the cookbook could have been shortened or cut completely to pick up the pace. While the ending is lovely, the film then wraps up a bit hastily

 FAVORITE SCENE:

Julia first learning her cookbook might be published and frenetically rushing into the house screaming “Paul! Paul, Paul, Paul!” while nearly tripping over herself has just a slight advantage over the scene in which Julie confronts her moral dilemma about killing lobsters and is subsequently traumatized while boiling them alive.

Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince

Genre  :  Supernatural

Rating :  PG

Cast: Daniel Radcliffe,Emma Watson, Rupert Grint,Tom Felton,Alan Rickman

Storyline:

A year has passed since the climactic events of 2007's Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which culminated in the reemergence of the sinister Lord Voldemort. Darkness is spreading across the muggle and wizard worlds alike as the orthodontically-challenged Bellatrix Lestrange and the rest of her Death Eater crew roam freely between both realms, leaving devastation and chaos in their wake.

Newly famous thanks to his heroic exploits, Harry Potter has barely a chance to cash in on his celebrity before his old pal Dumbledore arrives to whisk him away on an urgent wizarding matter to the town of Budleigh Babberton. It’s there the two encounter the eccentric Horace Slughorn, a former professor of potions at Hogwarts who now hides out in the homes of vacationing muggles. Convinced that Slughorn is withholding knowledge crucial to the defeat of Voldemort, Dumbledore enlists his most famous student to help convince the starstruck professor to return to his old position at Hogwarts. He then tasks Harry with finding out what Slughorn is hiding.

As danger mounts outside the school, romance blossoms within it. Oblivious to the affections of Hermione, Ron Weasley has begun dating the cloying busybody Lavender Brown, while Harry has developed a crush of his own on Ron’s sister Ginny, who’s currently attached to Dean Thomas. It's quite the tangled teenage web; the element of magic, with its love potions and other mind-altering concoctions, only further complicates matters.

Unamused by the romantic proceedings is Draco Malfoy, now clad entirely in black and simmering with hatred and envy for his rival Harry. Draco’s rage and resentment make him a perfect pawn for Voldemort, who recruits the angry young lad to aid in the Death Eaters’ attempts to infiltrate Hogwarts and exact revenge upon Dumbledore.

Draco’s suspicious behavior doesn’t go unnoticed by Harry, who becomes convinced that his long-time nemesis is surreptitiously working in league with the Dark Lord. But when his concerns are dismissed by the Hogwarts hierarchy, Harry mounts his own investigation and makes a disturbing discovery: Draco has been receiving help from someone on the inside, a traitor whose efforts could pave the way for Voldemort’s ultimate triumph.

WHAT’S GOOD?

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix director David Yates marks his second stint behind the camera with Prince, taking on what is arguably the most challenging episode of the franchise to date. But he proves more than up to the task, delivering all the visual grandeur and CGI fireworks we’ve come to expect from the Potter collection while simultaneously tackling the potentially thorny issue of adolescent hormonal urges with warmth, subtlety and a good dose of humor.

Though it clocks in at over two-and-a-half hours, the film never feels dull. Yates establishes a brisk pace from the outset, skillfully transitioning between emotionally dense dialogue exchanges, action-packed set pieces and comic relief. For all the travails facing young Harry, he’s never weighed down by the gravity of his situation, and neither is the storyline, which thankfully avoids becoming excessively dark.

Equal parts scary, funny, thrilling and touching, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is quite simply the best Potter flick yet.
.

RiseSmart Inc.

WHAT’S BAD?

For all of its fevered set-up, the film’s ending is something of a letdown: a brief, unspectacular climax followed by a somber denouement. While it effectively sets the stage for the final episode of the franchise, to be depicted in the two-part Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, it will undoubtedly leave many a viewer feeling a bit dissatisfied.

Star Trek :  Official  Movie  Trailer

Funny People

Genre : Comedy

Cast : Seth Rogin,Adam Sandler,Leslie Mann, Eric Bana

Rating : R

Storyline :

George Simmons is a comedian-turned-Hollywood superstar whose comfortable Malibu existence is threatened when he is diagnosed with a rare blood disorder. Placed on a regimen of experimental meds that offer a mere 8% chance of success, he’s forced to confront the very real prospect of his own mortality, which not surprisingly triggers a drastic realignment of his priorities. Looking for a companion to assist him in his final days, he hires Ira Wright, an earnest young comedian in desperate need of a break, to work as his assistant. Ira naturally jumps at the chance to be mentored by one of his idols, but quickly finds himself in over his head as he accompanies George on his perilous, chaotic journey of self-discovery and redemption.

Review :

A newly trim Seth Rogen (Pineapple Express, Observe & Report) injects an endearing blend of sensitivity and self-doubt into his normal “lovable schlub” routine as Ira, the struggling performer tasked with such a strange assignment. In the role of George, Adam Sandler deserves kudos for taking on a character clearly based on himself. It’s not hard to see the similarities between Sandler’s resume of high-concept, critically-maligned blockbusters and George’s fictional portfolio of hits like Merman, a male-centric version of Splash, Re-Do, the story of a grown man turned into a baby by a wizard, and My Best Friend is a Robot, a buddy comedy co-starring Owen Wilson. (For a more complete list, check out george-simmons.com.) But in contrast to Sandler’s genial, everyman persona, George is an acerbic, self-absorbed, privileged vision of the Hollywood success run amok.

Supporting players include Leslie Mann (Drillbit Taylor, Knocked Up), who plays George’s ex-girlfriend and soulmate Laura, a one-time actress now married with two children in Marin County. Eric Bana (Munich, The Time Traveler’s Wife) makes an inspired turn as Laura’s husband Clarke, a boisterous Aussie businessman whose temperament amusingly alternates between violent aggression and teary-eyed affection. Relative newcomer Aubrey Plaza (TV’s Parks and Recreation) is a delight as Ira’s shy, witty love interest Daisy, while veteran Apatow players Jonah Hill (Superbad, Forgetting Sarah Marshall) and Jason Schwartzman (The Darjeeling Limited, Walk Hard) provide much of the film’s laughs as his oddball roommates. Rounding out the supporting cast are RZA, Aziz Ansari and Apatow and Mann’s real-life daughters, Maude and Iris Apatow.

Cameos abound, with appearances by such varied names as musician Jon Brion, comedians Ray Romano and Andy Dick, and rapper Eminem.

WHAT’S GOOD?

After tugging the heartstrings and tickling the funnybone with equal skill in his previous directorial efforts, The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up, Judd Apatow heads into darker, more ambitious territory with Funny People, while still trying to deliver the same raucous comedy that we’ve come to expect from him. The result is a movie that is at times heartbreakingly poignant and laugh-out-loud funny.

giggle sweeps banner

WHAT’S BAD?

At almost two and a half hours in length, Funny People is neither poignant nor funny enough to justify such a bloated running time. Apatow let his ambition get the best of him this time, attempting to deliver — to paraphrase his own words — his funniest and most serious film to date. Methinks a shorter cut of the film might have yielded either a great comedy or a great drama, depending on which path its director chose. Instead we wind up with a merely good dramedy that meanders for a while before falling off a cliff in the third act.

FAVORITE SCENE:

While offering some sobering advice to Sandler’s character at a high-class restaurant, rapper Eminem catches Ray Romano staring at him and unleashes a barrage of expletives at the mortified former sitcom star, much to the shock of the surrounding customers. It’s ironic that one of the film’s funniest scenes comes courtesy of one of the few non-comedians in the cast.

The Ugly Truth

Genre : Romantic Comedy

Rating : R

Cast:  Katherine Heigl, Gerard Butle,Cheryl Hines

Storyline:

Constructed as an homage of sorts to the classic “opposites attract” screwball comedies of old, The Ugly Truth stars Katherine Heigl (Knocked Up, TV’s Grey's Anatomy) as Abby Richter, an ambitious, Type A news producer for the local morning talk show A.M. Sacramento. Abby’s uncompromising approach to news gathering is surpassed only by her uncompromising approach to dating; as a result, she’s chronically single and her show’s ratings are in the toilet. So when her boss insists that she take on Mike Chadway, the brash, obnoxious host of a cable-access relationship-oriented talk show as a new correspondent, Abby has little choice but to accept, despite her misgivings about Mike’s unabashed chauvinism. Though ratings for A.M. Sacramento immediately spike with the addition of Mike, Abby remains unconvinced as to the efficacy of his politically incorrect (read: misogynist) dating advice. Chastened by Abby’s continued skepticism, Mike makes her a wager: If she applies his tools and doesn’t successfully turn around her moribund dating life, he’ll quit the show. Abby agrees, initiating a sexually charged battle of wits between the two strident adversaries.

 Review :

Facing off against Heigl is Gerard Butler, the man who once roared “We are Sparta!” as the infinitely badass King Leonidas in the sword-and-sandals epic 300. Unfortunately, Butler followed up the 2006 blockbuster with the weepy chick flick P.S. I Love You, then the limp action fantasy Nim’s Island. And while he did manage to redeem himself as a cocky British gangster in Guy Ritchie’s comeback RocknRolla, Butler takes a sad U-turn with The Ugly Truth, falling to emasculating new lows in this insipid romantic comedy. Supporting castmembers include Cheryl Hines (Curb Your Enthusiasm), John Michael Higgins (Yes Man, Best in Show), Bree Turner (Just My Luck) and Eric Winter (Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay).

King.com (Midasplayer.com Ltd.)

WHAT’S GOOD?

Butler and Heigl are both tremendously charming, camera-friendly actors (no one has perfected the art of “sexily flustered” better than Heigl) and they do exhibit a fun, lively chemistry at times during The Ugly Truth. Unfortunately, they’re given precious little to work with and are forced to subsist on the few morsels of quality material the script provides.

WHAT’S BAD?

Director Robert Luketic (21, Monster-in-Law, Legally Blonde) has always been a strict adherent to the modern style-over-substance school of filmmaking, and The Ugly Truth is suitably glossy and slick. But damned if it isn’t the most uninspired, unfunny, unsexy sitcom rip-off to grace theaters in recent memory. If Luketic devoted half as much time to punching up the script as he did to lovingly photographing boy toy Eric Winter, he might actually have a decent movie on his hands.

A Perfect Getaway

Genre :Thriller

Rating : R

Cast : Steve Zahn,Mila Jovovich,Timothy Olyphant

Storyline:

Cliff and Cydney are happy newlyweds headed to Hawaii for a quiet honeymoon on a remote portion of the island of Kauai. Their marital bliss is abruptly interrupted, however, when they receive word that just a few days prior, a pair of newlyweds not unlike themselves were murdered on Maui, and that the killers, believed to be a man and a woman, were still at large.

Dismayed by the unsettling news, Cliff and Cydney nonetheless resolve to move forward with their honeymoon, but start to become anxious when they encounter not one but two exceedingly strange couples, each of whom seemingly fit the profile of the killers. Miles away from civilization, unable to get a decent cell phone signal and seemingly surrounded by possible murderers, they begin to wonder if they might be the next victims.

هل تريد الذهاب إلى أمريكا
Review

Playing the part of Cliff is Steve Zahn, a prolific character actor best known for supporting roles in films like Rescue Dawn and Sunshine Cleaning. As a jittery Hollywood screenwriter who too often lets his overactive imagination get the best of him, Zahn’s performance is the most credible aspect of the movie. In the role of his wife Cydney is Resident Evil series star Milla Jovovich, demonstrating how truly unremarkable she can be when not cast opposite expressionless zombies.

Despite being saddled with most of the film’s worst lines, Hitman star Timothy Olyphant proves convincing as Nick, a wild-eyed survivalist who claims to have served as an army special forces operative in Iraq. Laying it on a little too thick with the fake Southern accent is Kiele Sanchez, who plays Nick’s equally suspicious girlfriend.

WHAT'S GOOD?

Director David Twohy (Pitch Black, The Chronicles of Riddick) makes an earnest attempt at crafting a modern-day murder mystery, and for the most part, he does a commendable job of messing with audience expectations, setting the stage for a major second-act plot twist that proves every bit as surprising as advertised.

WHAT'S BAD?

Twohy is one of the more likable Hollywood directors, and it’s good to see him back from the dead after the Riddick disaster set fire to his career. Unfortunately, he falls headlong into the M. Night Shyamalan trap with A Perfect Getaway, focusing too much on pulling off the big twist and forsaking just about every other element of the movie. To be fair, Twohy’s film isn’t nearly as dreadful as Shyamalan’s recent Razzie-amassing efforts like The Happening and Lady in the Water, but its deficiencies are similarly multifaceted. Awkward dialogue, mediocre performances by Jovovich and Sanchez and an excessively aimless pre-twist plotline are just a few of the problems that plague the movie.

But my biggest gripe with A Perfect Getaway is that Twohy fills the story with so many seemingly important plot devices, which end up going nowhere that the film could very well be re-titled Red Herring: The Movie. At a certain point, you throw up your hands and ask, “Well then, is any of this s--t real?” And the answer is: No, probably not. But isn’t Kauai beautiful?

(500) Days of Summer

Rating: PG-13

Genre: Romantic Comedy

Cast:Joseph Gordon- Levitt,Zoey Deschanel

Story Line:

Tom is a hip, twentysomething greeting-card writer whose dreary, cubicle-dwelling existence is unalterably changed with the arrival of Summer, his boss’s perky new assistant. Immediately intrigued by the bright-eyed Midwestern transplant, lovelorn Tom is easy prey for Summer’s beguiling combination of beauty, wit and approachability, and soon finds himself wholly smitten. The feeling, at least a portion of it, is mutual, and when sparks fly between them at an office karaoke party, the two begin dating — much to Tom’s delight. Beyond the physical attraction, he and Summer share a surprising amount of things in common, and would appear to be a perfect match, save for one crucial detail: Tom is an inveterate romantic who clings stubbornly to the notion of two people joined by destiny, while Summer coldly eschews such old-fashioned notions of love and romance. Thus, the stage is set for a battle of dueling philosophies, played out over the course of their topsy-turvy, 18-month relationship.

review:

Joseph Gordon-Levitt (G.I. Joe: The Rise of CobraThe Lookout) happily returns to his comedic roots in the role of the cynical yet sensitive hipster Tom, while the always adorable Zooey Deschanel (Elf, Yes Man) sparkles as his mystifying paramour. (500) Days of Summer background players include Geoffrey Arend (TV’s Trust Me), Matthew Gray Gubler (TV’s Criminal Minds), Clark Gregg (Iron Man, Choke) and Chloe Moretz, who is particularly enjoyable as Tom’s unusually wise kid sister/quasi-therapist Rachel.

WHAT’S GOOD?

Smart, witty and quirky but never in a pretentious or self-satisfied way, (500) Days of Summer is simply a well-crafted romantic comedy, lent added resonance by strong performances on the part of its two lead actors, Deschanel and Gordon-Levitt. The only potentially gimmicky aspects of the film are its non-linear structure, which bounces around to different key dates in the couples’ 500-day relationship, and the wry commentary provided by the comically hubristic narrator. I found neither to be especially irksome.

WHAT’S BAD?

The only time when (500) Days of Summer veers toward cliche is when Tom interacts with his pals McKenzie and Paul, who too often resemble the quintessential buffoonish sidekicks we’ve seen dispense bad advice in so many romantic comedies before.
